DolceVita Orange 100% Pure Fruit Spread
ITALIAN ORANGES (from the Arabic نارنج (nāranj) which derived from the Sanskrit word for "orange tree" (नारङ्ग nāraṅga).
Oranges originated in Ancient China, though bitter oranges and other citrus fruits were first introduced into Sicily by the Moors in the 9th century during the Emirate of Sicily. But it wasn’t until the early 16th century, when Italian and Portuguese merchants brought orange trees into Italy, that the sweet orange was quickly adopted as an edible fruit. Even now in Italian local dialect, a sweet orange is called a ‘portogallo’ or ‘purtuallo’, meaning "the Portuguese (one)". The warm Italian climate is favourable to growing oranges, especially in Sicily and around the Amalfi coast. Several varieties have been awarded IGP and DOP status, such as the ‘Oranges of Ribera’.
